RESUMO

Purpose: Forty-hertz light flicker stimulation has been proven to reduce neurodegeneration, but its effect on optic nerve regeneration is unclear. This study explores the effect of 40-Hz light flicker in promoting optic nerve regeneration in zebrafish and investigates the underlying mechanisms. Methods: Wild-type and mpeg1:EGFP zebrafish were used to establish a model of optic nerve crush. Biocytin tracing and hematoxylin and eosin staining were employed to observe whether 40-Hz light flicker promotes regeneration of retinal ganglion cell axons and dendrites. Optomotor and optokinetic responses were evaluated to assess recovery of visual function. Immunofluorescence staining of mpeg1:EGFP zebrafish was performed to observe changes in microglia. Differentially expressed genes that promote optic nerve regeneration following 40-Hz light flicker stimulation were identified and validated through RNA-sequencing analysis and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Results: Zebrafish exhibited spontaneous optic nerve regeneration after optic nerve injury and restored visual function. We observed that 40-Hz light flicker significantly activated microglia following optic nerve injury and promoted regeneration of retinal ganglion cell axons and dendrites, as well as recovery of visual function. Transcriptomics and qRT-PCR analyses revealed that 40-Hz light flicker increased the expression of genes associated with neuronal plasticity, including bdnf, npas4a, fosab, fosb, egr4, and ier2a. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this study is the first to demonstrate that 40-Hz light flicker stimulation promotes regeneration of retinal ganglion cell axons and dendrites and recovery of visual function in zebrafish, which is associated with microglial activation and enhancement of neural plasticity.

RESUMO

The analytical equation based on Monin-Obukhov (M-O) similarity theory (i.e., wind profile equation) has been adopted since 1970s for using in the prediction of wind vertical profile over flat terrains, which is mature and accurate. However, its applicability over complex terrains remains unknown. This applicability signifies the accuracy of the estimations of aerodynamic parameters for the boundary layer of non-flat terrain, such as zero-displacement height (d) and aerodynamic roughness length (z0), which will determine the accuracy of frequency correction and source area analysis in calculating carbon, water, and trace gas fluxes based on vorticity covariance method. Therefore, the validation of wind profile model in non-flat terrain is the first step to test whether the flux model needs improvement. We measured three-dimensional wind speed data by using the Ker Towers (three towers in a watershed) at Qingyuan Forest CERN in the Mountainous Region of east Liaoning Province, and compared them with data from Panjin Agricultural Station in the Liaohe Plain, to evaluate the applicability of a generalized wind profile model based on the Monin-Obukhov similarity theory on non-flat terrain. The results showed that the generalized wind profile model could not predict wind speeds accurately of three flux towers separately located in different sites, indicating that wind profile model was not suitable for predicting wind speeds in complex terrains. In the leaf-off and leaf-on periods, the coefficient of determination (R2) between observed and predicted wind speeds ranged from 0.12 to 0.30. Compared to measured values, the standard error of the predicted wind speeds was high up to 2 m·s-1. The predicted wind speeds were high as twice as field-measured wind speed, indicating substantial overestimation. Nevertheless, this model correctly predicted wind speeds in flat agricultural landscape in Panjin Agricultural Station. The R2 between observed wind speeds and predicted wind speed ranged from 0.90 to 0.93. The standard error between observed and predicted values was only 0.5 m·s-1. Results of the F-test showed that the root-mean-square error of the observed and predicted wind speeds in each secondary forest complex terrain was much greater than that in flat agricultural landscape. Terrain was the primary factor affecting the applicability of wind profile model, followed by seasonality (leaf or leafless canopy). The wind profile model was not applicable to the boundary-layer flows over forest canopies in complex terrains, because the d was underestimated or both the d and z0 were underestimated, resulting in inaccurate estimation of aerodynamic height.

RESUMO

Acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by renal ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is a severe clinical condition. ROS accumulation, antioxidant pathways deficiency, and inflammation are involved in IRI. Pioglitazone (Pio) exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The aim of this study was to explore the protective effects of pioglitazone against IRI-induced AKI. Pathogen-free Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were arbitrarily divided into four groups: Sham operation group Control (CON) group, CON + Pio group, I/R + Saline group, and I/R + Pio group. In addition, HK-2 cells were subjected to hypoxia and reoxygenation to develop an H/R model for investigation of the protective mechanism of Pio. Pretreatment with pioglitazone in the model rats reduced urea nitrogen and creatinine levels, histopathological scores, and cytotoxicity after IRI. Pioglitazone treatment significantly attenuated renal cell apoptosis, decreased cytotoxicity, increased Bcl-2 expression, and downregulated Bax expression. Besides, the levels of ROS and inflammatory factors, including NLRP3, ASC, pro-IL-1ß, pro-caspase-1, cleaved-caspase-1, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß, in I/R rats and H/R cells were normalized by the pioglitazone treatment. Pioglitazone improved IRI-induced AKI by attenuating oxidative stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Therefore, pioglitazone has the potential to serve as a novel agent for renal IRI treatment and prevention.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases are two of the most frequent neurological diseases. The clinical features of AD are memory decline and cognitive dysfunction, while PD mainly manifests as motor dysfunction such as limb tremors, muscle rigidity abnormalities, and slow gait. Abnormalities in cholesterol, sphingolipid, and glycerophospholipid metabolism have been demonstrated to directly exacerbate the progression of AD by stimulating Aß deposition and tau protein tangles. Indirectly, abnormal lipids can increase the burden on brain vasculature, induce insulin resistance, and affect the structure of neuronal cell membranes. Abnormal lipid metabolism leads to PD through inducing accumulation of α-syn, dysfunction of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum, and ferroptosis. Great progress has been made in targeting lipid metabolism abnormalities for the treatment of AD and PD in recent years, like metformin, insulin, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) agonists, and monoclonal antibodies targeting apolipoprotein E (ApoE). This review comprehensively summarizes the involvement of dysregulated lipid metabolism in the pathogenesis of AD and PD, the application of Lipid Monitoring, and emerging lipid regulatory drug targets. A better understanding of the lipidological bases of AD and PD may pave the way for developing effective prevention and treatment methods for neurodegenerative disorders.

RESUMO

Organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials have attracted considerable attention for their extended afterglow at ambient conditions, eco-friendliness, and wide-ranging applications in bio-imaging, data storage, security inks, and emergency illumination. Significant advancements have been achieved in recent years in developing highly efficient RTP materials by manipulating the intermolecular interactions. In this perspective, we have summarized recent advances in ion-regulated organic RTP materials based on the roles and interactions of ions, including the ion-π interactions, electrostatic interactions, and coordinate interactions. Subsequently, the current challenges and prospects of utilizing ionic interactions for inducing and modulating the phosphorescent properties are presented. It is anticipated that this perspective will provide basic guidelines for fabricating novel ionic RTP materials and further extend their application potential.

RESUMO

As one of the high pathogenic influenza viruses, H1N1 virus easily induces to serious diseases, even leading to death. To date, all detection methods for H1N1 virus had shortcomings, including high equipment cost, time consumption, and etc. Therefore, a novel detection method should be established to achieve more convenient, rapid, and low-cost detection. In this work, an isomer of HPBmN-I with aggregation-induced emission characteristic was firstly synthesized on the basis of our previous reported HPBpN-I. The results showed that HPBmN-I only selectively binds to N1 in the presence of H1, while HPBpN-I can exhibit total fluorescence response to H1 and N1 in H1/N1 mixture. The limited of detection (LOD) of HPBmN-I to N1 was estimated to be 20.82 ng/mL in normal saline (NS) according to the IUPAC-based approach. The simulation calculations based on molecular docking revealed that four HPBmN-I molecules combine well with the hydrophobic cavity of N1 and achieve the fluorescence enhancement due to size matching with each other. The combination of HPBpN-I and HPBmN-I as probes was successfully used to quantitatively detect H1 and N1 in real H1N1 virus. Compared to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method, the established method not only showed the same detection accuracy but also had the advantages of real-time, ease of preparation, and low-cost, demonstrating potential market prospects.

RESUMO

Organic near-infrared room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials offer remarkable advantages in bioimaging due to their characteristic time scales and background noise elimination. However, developing near-infrared RTP materials for deep tissue imaging still faces challenges since the small band gap may increase the non-radiative decay, resulting in weak emission and short phosphorescence lifetime. In this study, fused-ring pyrrole-based structures were employed as the guest molecules for the construction of long wavelength emissive RTP materials. Compared to the decrease of the singlet energy level, the triplet energy level showed a more effectively decrease with the increase of the conjugation of the substituent groups. Moreover, the sufficient conjugation of fused ring structures in the guest molecule suppresses the non-radiative decay of triplet excitons. Therefore, a near-infrared RTP material (764 nm) was achieved for deep penetration bioimaging. Tumor cell membrane is used to coat RTP nanoparticles (NPs) to avoid decreasing the RTP performance compared to traditional coating by amphiphilic surfactants. RTP NPs with tumor-targeting properties show favorable phosphorescent properties, superior stability, and excellent biocompatibility. These NPs are applied for time-resolved luminescence imaging to eliminate background interference with excellent tissue penetration. This study provides a practical solution to prepare long-wavelength and long-lifetime organic RTP materials and their applications in bioimaging.

RESUMO

The development of flexible, room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials remains challenging owing to the quenching of their unstable triplet excitons via molecular motion. Therefore, a polymer matrix with Tg higher than room temperature is required to prevent polymer segment movement. In this study, a RTP material was developed by incorporating a 4-biphenylboronic acid (BPBA) phosphor into a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix (Tg =-27.1 °C), which exhibits a remarkable UV-light-dependent oxygen consumption phosphorescence with a lifetime of 1275.7 ms. The adjustable RTP performance is influenced by the crystallinity and polymorph (α, ß, and γ phases) fraction of PVDF, therefore, the low Tg of the PVDF matrix enables the polymeric segmental motion upon microwave irradiation. Consequently, a reduction in the crystallinity and an increase in the α phase fraction in PVDF film induces RTP after 2.45 GHz microwave irradiation. These findings open up new avenues for constructing crystalline and phase-dependent RTP materials while demonstrating a promising approach toward microwave detection.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Structural variations (SVs) in individual genomes are major determinants of complex traits, including adaptability to environmental variables. The Mongolian and Hainan cattle breeds in East Asia are of taurine and indicine origins that have evolved to adapt to cold and hot environments, respectively. However, few studies have investigated SVs in East Asian cattle genomes and their roles in environmental adaptation, and little is known about adaptively introgressed SVs in East Asian cattle. RESULTS: In this study, we examine the roles of SVs in the climate adaptation of these two cattle lineages by generating highly contiguous chromosome-scale genome assemblies. Comparison of the two assemblies along with 18 Mongolian and Hainan cattle genomes obtained by long-read sequencing data provides a catalog of 123,898 nonredundant SVs. Several SVs detected from long reads are in exons of genes associated with epidermal differentiation, skin barrier, and bovine tuberculosis resistance. Functional investigations show that a 108-bp exonic insertion in SPN may affect the uptake of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by macrophages, which might contribute to the low susceptibility of Hainan cattle to bovine tuberculosis. Genotyping of 373 whole genomes from 39 breeds identifies 2610 SVs that are differentiated along a "north-south" gradient in China and overlap with 862 related genes that are enriched in pathways related to environmental adaptation. We identify 1457 Chinese indicine-stratified SVs that possibly originate from banteng and are frequent in Chinese indicine cattle. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the unique contribution of SVs in East Asian cattle to environmental adaptation and disease resistance.

RESUMO

Phytoremediation, as a green and effective in-situ remediation technology for heavy metal-contaminated soil, has attracted the attention of Chinese scholars and has resulted in a series of achievements over the past 20 years. In this study, the species characteristics, distribution of field discovery sites in various vegetation zones, habitat characteristics, habitat geological characteristics, and geochemistry of cadmium (Cd) of the Cd hyperaccumulators in China reported in the relevant literature from the past 20 years (from 2002 to 2021) were summarized by searching for related keywords. Finally, suggestions were proposed for the screening of new Cd hyperaccumulators. The results showed that a total of 45 species of Cd hyperaccumulators in China have been reported so far. In terms of plant species, they belonged to 22 families and 36 genera, among which Compositae with 14 species was the most abundant. There were 25 species discovered through the field investigation, which were mainly distributed in the subtropical broadleaf evergreen forest region of southern China. Additionally, the Cd hyperaccumulators discovered by field surveys were mainly found in high Cd-concentrated soils surrounding lead-zinc mines. In conclusion, abundant plant resources, high concentrations of heavy metal soils, and long-term domestication jointly promoted the formation of hyperaccumulators. Therefore, the region with these three points could be considered a high probability region for the presence of hyperaccumulators, and the screening of hyperaccumulators could be carried out around this. We proposed that the screening of new hyperaccumulators can be carried out through the following six steps:the identification and investigation of high probability areas, the enrichment capability test, the enrichment capability test in low concentration levels, the enrichment capability test between different ecotypes, the succession of enrichment capability, and the test of remediation proficiency.

RESUMO

Prolificacy is a crucial characteristic of livestock, particularly for species such as sheep that have many births. The objectives of this study were as follows: (1) to investigate the genetic diversity of the 13 new and 7 known variants in the BMPRIB, GDF9, BMP15, LEPR, and B4GALNT2 genes in Ujimqin (UM), the F1 population of Dorper × Ujimqin crossbred (DPU), the F1 population of Suffolk × Ujimqin crossbred (SFKU), Sonid sheep (SN), Tan sheep (Tan), Hu sheep (Hu), and Small-tailed Han sheep (STH) sheep breeds/populations; (2) to perform an association analysis of the above 20 variants with litter size in 325 UM, 304 DPU, and 66 SFKU sheep populations; (3) to compare the frequencies of the litter-size-related alleles of these 20 variants among 8 sheep breeds/populations (the above seven sheep breeds + Mongolia sheep breed). With the use of the Sequenom MassARRAY®SNP assay technology, these 20 mutations were genotyped. The association analysis results showed that the c.746A>G (FecB) mutation in BMPR1B was significantly associated with the litter size of UM and DPU, the c.994A>G (FecGA) in GDF9 was significantly associated with the litter size of SFKU, and the c.31_33CTTinsdel (B1) in BMP15 was significantly associated with the litter size of UM. Our findings might provide valuable genetic markers for expanding sheep litter sizes.

RESUMO

Organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials are currently the focus of research in the field of bioimaging. In comparison with the conventional imaging modalities based on organic fluorescent dyes, RTP materials with long lifetime enable time-resolved imaging to improve the imaging resolution by avoiding autofluorescence. In this review, we will start with summarizing strategies for achieving high performance RTP materials for bioimaging, including the development of RTP-compounds, host-guest doping materials, and supramolecular assemblies. We then discuss the optimization of nanonization processes to obtain RTP nanoparticles with controllable size, high dispersibility, and improved stability. The differences between top-down and bottom-up approaches are further described. Finally, we briefly introduce the emerging methods for preparing RTP materials for bioimaging.

RESUMO

The internal soil nitrogen (N) cycle supplies N to plants and microorganisms but may induce N pollution in the environment. Understanding the variability of gross N cycling rates resulting from the global spatial heterogeneity of climatic and edaphic variables is essential for estimating the potential risk of N loss. Here we compiled 4,032 observations from 398 published 15N pool dilution and tracing studies to analyse the interactions between soil internal potential N cycling and environmental effects. We observed that the global potential N cycle changes from a conservative cycle in forests to a less conservative one in grasslands and a leaky one in croplands. Structural equation modelling revealed that soil properties (soil pH, total N and carbon-to-N ratio) were more important than the climate factors in shaping the internal potential N cycle, but different patterns in the potential N cycle of terrestrial ecosystems across climatic zones were also determined. The high spatial variations in the global soil potential N cycle suggest that shifting cropland systems towards agroforestry systems can be a solution to improve N conservation.

RESUMO

The modulation of triplet exciton decay in organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials has been considered as a promising strategy for highly efficient photodynamic therapy. In this study, we report an effective approach based on microfluidic technology to manipulate the triplet exciton decay for generating highly reactive oxygen species (ROS). BQD shows strong phosphorescence upon doping into crystalline BP, indicating the high generation of triplet excitons based on the host-guest interaction. Through microfluidic technology, BP/BQD doping materials can be precisely assembled to form uniform nanoparticles with no phosphorescence but strong ROS generation. The energy decay of the long-lived triplet excitons of BP/BQD nanoparticles emitting phosphorescence has been successfully manipulated via microfluidic technology to generate 20-fold enhanced ROS than that of BP/BQD nanoparticles prepared by nanoprecipitation. The in vitro antibacterial studies indicate that BP/BQD nanoparticles have high specificity against S. aureus microorganisms with a low minimum inhibition concentration (10-7 M). BP/BQD nanoparticles below 300 nm show size-assisted antibacterial activity, demonstrated using a newly developed biophysical model. This novel microfluidic platform provides an efficient approach to convert host-guest RTP materials into photodynamic antibacterial agents and to promote the development of antibacterial agents without cytotoxicity and drug-resistance issues based on the host-guest RTP systems.

RESUMO

Intramuscular fat content and marbling affecting meat quality are important economic traits in beef cattle. CDC10 (cell division cycle 10 or Septin 7), a member of the septin family involved in cellular proliferation, was considered as a functional and positional candidate gene for beef marbling. In a previous study, we revealed that the expression levels of CDC10 were also positively correlated with marbling scores in Japanese Black cattle. However, the regulatory mechanism of the CDC10 gene on IMF deposition in cattle remains unclear. In the present study, flow cytometry, EdU proliferation assays, and Oil Red O staining results showed that overexpression of CDC10 could promote the differentiation of bovine intramuscular preadipocyte (BIMP) and 3T3-L1 cells, whereas knockdown of CDC10 resulted in the opposite consequences. Furthermore, quantitative PCR and Western blotting results showed that overexpression of CDC10 could promote the expression levels of adipogenic marker genes PPARγ and C/EBPα at both mRNA and protein levels in BIMP and 3T3-L1 cells, whereas knockdown of CDC10 resulted in the opposite consequences. Our results provide new insights into the regulatory roles of CDC10 in adipocytes in animals.

RESUMO

Fatty acid (FA) composition has an important impact on the nutrition and flavor of meat, and on consumer health, and is receiving more attention in the sheep industry. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the expression levels of the CAST gene and the FA composition in the longissimus thoracis (LL) muscle, to identify novel variants of CAST, and to perform association analysis with the FA composition in grazing Sonid lambs. The correlation results showed that high expression levels of CAST are correlated with better FA compositions and classes in LL. For association studies, the results showed that c.1210C>T and c.1437G>A in LD-M, and c.2097C>T mutations are associated with some compositions and classes of FA in the LL of grazing Sonid sheep. Two missense c.646G>C (G216R) and c.1210C>T (R404C) mutations were predicted to influence the Calpain_inhib domains of CAST. Thus, the correlation results and associated mutations are expected to be genetic selection markers for the FA composition and meat quality of grazing Sonid lamb muscle and provide new insights into sheep meat quality traits influenced by the ovine CAST gene.

RESUMO

Reproductive traits, such as ovulation rate and litter size, are important factors influencing the sheep industry. The bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) is a major gene affecting the reproductive traits in sheep, and multiple mutations in BMP15 gene could affect the ovulation rate and litter size in many sheep breeds, showing high breed specificity. However, identification of novel variations and seeking breed-specific markers associated with litter size in other sheep breeds are still important. In this study, we sequenced the BMP15 gene of Mongolia sheep, and 12 novel variants were detected by direct sequencing and whole-genome resequencing. Among them, the g.50985975 G > A polymorphism in intron and synonymous c.755 T > C (Leu252Pro) in exon 2 of BMP15 were significantly associated with the litter sizes of Mongolia ewes (P < 0.01 and P < 0.01, respectively), as well as the g.50988478C > A and g.50987863G > A in the promoter region of BMP15 were significantly associated with the litter sizes of Ujimqin ewes (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). The c.755 T > C mutation is predicted to change the tertiary structure of BMP15. Our findings may provide potentially useful genetic markers for increasing litter size in sheep.

RESUMO

Intercropping a Cd-accumulator with economically valuable crops is common in slightly or moderately Cd-polluted farmland soils. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of water-soluble chitosan (WSC) on the growth and Cd uptake of the Cd-accumulator Hylotelephium spectabile and soybean (Glycine max) during a co-cultivation in Cd-contaminated agricultural soil (WSC, 0 and 10 g·m-2). The results indicated that soybean yields were highest in response to the intercropping and WSC treatment. The results from the field trials generally showed that intercropping and WSC treatments significantly decreased Cd concentrations in inedible parts of soybean by 42.9-72.1% (except for stems), in the meantime, increased 95.8%-334.6% in shoot and root tissues of H. spectabile compared with the control (p < 0.05). The data revealed that Cd uptake was highest for H. spectabile during the intercropping and WSC treatment. The application of WSC in the intercropping system significantly increased the uptake of Cd by H. spectabile, but not by soybean. The findings of this study suggest that combining an intercropping system with a WSC treatment may be better for remediating Cd-contaminated soils than other methods involving the growth of a single hyperaccumulator.

This paper clearly focused on the accumulation and uptake of Cd in the system of intercropping of Cd-accumulator (Hylotelephium spectable) and soybean (Glycine max) grown in Cd-polluted farmland soils supplied with water-soluble chitosan (WSC) under field conditions. Some studies mainly focused on active agent to promote remediation efficiency of (hyper) accumulators. This study indicated that combining the intercropping system with WSC may be better for remediating Cd-contaminated soils than the methods involving a single hyperaccumulator.

RESUMO

Photodynamic immunotherapy is a promising treatment strategy that destroys primary tumors and inhibits the metastasis and relapse of distant tumors. As reactive oxygen species are an intermediary for triggering immune responses, photosensitizers (PSs) that can actively target and efficiently trigger oxidative stress are urgently required. Herein, pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole as an electronic donor is introduced in acceptor-donor-acceptor skeleton PSs (TP-IS1 and TP-IS2) with aggregation-induced emission properties and high absorptivity. Meanwhile, pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole derivatives innovatively prove their ability of type I photoreaction, indicating their promising hypoxia-tolerant advantages. Moreover, M1 macrophages depicting an ultrafast delivery through the cell-to-cell tunneling nanotube pathway emerge to construct TP-IS1@M1 by coating the photosensitizer TP-IS1. Under low concentration of TP-IS1@M1, an effective immune response of TP-IS1@M1 is demonstrated by releasing damage-associated molecular patterns, maturating dendritic cells, and vanishing the distant tumor. These findings reveal insights into developing hypoxia-tolerant PSs and an efficient delivery method with unprecedented performance against tumor metastasis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Rumen microbes play an important role in ruminant energy supply and animal performance. Previous studies showed that the rumen microbiome of Mongolian cattle has adapted to degrade the rough forage to provide sufficient energy to tolerate the harsh desert ecological conditions. However, little is known about the succession of rumen microbes in different developmental stages of post-weaning Mongolian cattle. METHODS: Here, we examined the succession of the rumen microbial composition and structure of 15 post-weaning Mongolian cattle at three developmental stages i.e., 5 months (RM05), 18 months (RM18) and, 36 months (RM36) by using the 16S rRNA gene sequencing method. RESULTS: We did not find any age-dependent variations in the ruminal concentrations of any volatile fatty acid (VFA) of Mongolian cattle. The diversity of the rumen bacterial community was significantly lower in RM05 group, which reached to stability with age. Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were the two dominant phyla among all age groups. Phylum Actinobacteria was significantly higher in RM05 group, phyla Spirochaetes, and Tenericutes were highly abundant in RM18 group, and phyla Proteobacteria and Epsilonbacteraeota were enriched in RM36 group. Genera Prevotella_1, Bacteroides, and Bifidobacterium were abundant in RM05 group. The short chain fatty acid (SCFA) producing bacteria Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group showed high abundance in RM18 group and fiber degrading genus Alloprevotella was highly abundant in RM36 group. Random forest analysis identified Alloprevotella, Ileibacterium, and Helicobacter as important age discriminatory genera. In particular, the genera Ruminococcaceae_UCG-005, Bacteroides, Saccharofermentans, and Fibrobacter in RM05, genera [Eubacterium] coprostanoligenes_group, Erysipelotrichaceae_UCG-004, Helicobacter, Saccharofermentans, Papillibacter, and Turicibacter in RM18, and genera Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, Lachnospiraceae_AC2044_group, and Papillibacter in RM36 showed the top interactions values in the intra-group interaction network. CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that rumen microbiota of Mongolian cattle reached to stability and maturity with age after weaning. This study provides some theoretical evidence about the importance of functional specific rumen bacteria in different age groups. Further studies are needed to determine their actual roles and interactions with the host.
